Our Purpose

The goal of Wednesday’s Child Foundation, Inc. (WCF) is to provide opportunities and life enrichment to children in foster care throughout the state of Oregon. The Foundation accepts requests from foster parents and Services to Children and Families (SCF) caseworkers for funds not provided by the State for positive, motivational experiences. These activities, which may offer individual growth or be team-oriented in nature, might include instruction in music, art and dance; participation in school athletics, drama and specialized camps; or special education opportunities. Disbursement of funds are decided on a case-by-case basis once requests are reviewed by an SCF liaison and submitted to the board for final approval. The average financial request shall not exceed $300, although more funds may be offered by the WCF board if it feels additional finances are necessary. The board solicits funds throughout the year through grants, private and corporate donations.

With the number of children in foster care steadily growing, it is the hope of the Foundation that fundraising efforts will pay off to the extent that we can offer funds to hundreds, even thousands, of children in the coming years.

The State of Oregon provides foster parents a monthly per diem intended to cover food and limited clothing purchases. Expenses beyond the per diem become the responsibility of the foster parent, many of whom care for multiple foster children or children of their own in combination with foster children in the household.

Wednesday’s Child Foundation, Inc. provides funds for life-enriching opportunities that other children their age have an opportunity to participate in such as swimming, Tae Kwon Do, 4H Clubs, therapeutic horseback riding lessons, summer camp and school sponsored trips.
